A group for poz guys in future??
Happy weekend, everybody!
Here’s just a quick update to let you know what we’re working on. This morning we already fixed a bug that prevented you from seeing the photos in user photo albums.
Apart from that, the main task at the moment is to improve discoverability of other user profiles and dating. In other words, we want to make it easier and more fun to find who’s on Flokkr and also enable users to better present themselves on their user profiles by making profile editing and picture uploads easier and more fun, too.
Here’s the more technical bit: In order for us to innovate faster, we need to make some changes to the web app. Over the next days, weeks and months we will transition parts of the actual web app to the main Flokkr web portal. You may have noticed that we already have two different kinds of pages, easiest to identify by their colour schemes: There are pages with a dark grey background (e.g. flokkr.com, flokkr.com/places, flokkr.com/settings) and those with a light grey background – that’s were you land when you log in with your Flokkr account, including Flokks, Radar, Chat and profiles. It turned out that we are more flexible in terms of new features, updates and innovation using the “dark grey” part of flokkr.com.
That means for you, during the transition period you may find yourself sometimes on the current ”light” part of the website and more and more often on the ”dark” part. We will try our best to make the transition as smooth as possible. The goal is to have only one unified website at the that does everything.
I hope you’re all looking forward to more features and improved usability! Thanks for being with us!
As previously announced, our new gay city guide app has now also been approved for Android and can be downloaded for free on Google Play.
This is our first Android app, so please check it out and let us know if you’re having any trouble with it. It would also be a massive help if you could give us a 5-star rating on Google Play. 🙏☺️
Android 9 (“Pie”) or later is currently the minimum requirement for installing the app. If there is enough demand for compatibility with an older version, we could give it a try, but in the latest test, there were some issues on older phones, so we dropped support, at least for our first version.
As a reminder, iPhone users can get Flokkr Places on the App Store.
Please also share this app with your friends. We hope more people will find our platform useful and join our community. You can copy this link to share with your friends: https://flokkr.com/places/app – it contains a link for both iPhone and Android users. Thank you!
Our first app has landed on the App Store! 🎉
Flokkr Places is your “Gay City Guide” to discover the best gay bars, nightclubs, restaurants, shops, hotels, charities and landmarks in your local area or for planning your next holiday.
Once the LGBT venues start to reopen later this year, this must-have app should be on every gay man’s smartphone.
Free download: App Store
The Android version is currently in review and should become available soon, too.
This is an important milestone for Flokkr and a lot more will follow.
As always, please let us know if you’re experiencing any issues. Otherwise, a little 5-star review on the App Store would help us immensely! 😜😘
Happy Christmas to the Flokkr community! We hope you can be with your loved ones over the Holidays. Unfortunately, many of you can’t. Please stay strong and reach out to others to ask for or offer your support. Things will get better. ❤️
some of you may have received a message by a fake user called "torped…" (abbreviated), with a spam link in the message. This was our first known bad user on Flokkr and they have been kicked out swiftly.
Thanks to those who notified us – keep safe!

Just giving you a quick update to let you know what’s happening at Flokkr…
😵 Although a long-awaited upgrade of the Flokkr Radar feature is a top priority, it has come to our attention that new users are having trouble signing up to Flokkr. This is obviously bad, so we’re working double-hard to fix this first.
😯 There also seems to be a bug in the push notifications button, but this should be fixed pretty quickly.
💻 Lastly, there was also a range of important tasks regarding the server infrastructure that was addressed in recent weeks.
🥰 Your feedback is always welcome. Let us know how we can improve your experience on Flokkr!
Starting Saturday, 20th June 2020 at 12pm (BST) you can rate and review all the LGBTQ+ places in our brand new Gay City Guide.
You can leave a simple 1 to 5 star rating within seconds and just a few clicks. If you have a bit more time, write a little review to let others know what it's like there.
🎁 Amongst all users who leave at least one rating until the end of 30 June 2020 have a chance to win a Flokkr T-shirt! If you would like to rate a place that's not yet in our database, feel free to add it or send us a message and let us know what place you would like us to add.
Good luck and thanks for your help!
As lockdowns are slowly being eased around the world we’re happy to announce the release of the first stage of “Flokkr Places”.
Flokkr Places is a city guide mapping gay bars, restaurants, saunas, support groups and any other physical places that are of interest specifically to LGBT+ people. This “gay city guide” is openly accessible to everybody on the internet, i.e. the basic features don’t even require a Flokkr account.
Flokkr Places is a crowdsourced database, which means all Flokkr users can contribute with their local knowledge by adding and updating places, upload photos and, of course, rate and review places.
The rate/review feature will be launched in one week from now, on Saturday 20th June 2020 at noon (BST). This is to let all places added by then gain ratings from the same moment (we will try to contact as many place owners as possible to make them aware).
Please help us!
So, during this first phase, we would like to encourage you to check out the new Places section at https://flokkr.com/places and add missing places that are of interest for LGBTQ+ people or enhance the existing entries by suggesting an edit or by uploading a photo if you happen to have one.
At the beginning we will manually review all edit suggestions before they are published.
Please remember, places must be related to the LGBTQ+ community in some way; a prime example would be a gay bar, of course. If a place is not obviously “gay”, but very popular and regularly frequented by LGBTQ people, then that’s just as good, but please don’t add you local pizzeria just because they tolerate gay visitors. There will be some grey areas, but you can always ask if you’re not sure. Don’t forget, it will be a database from LGBT+ people for LGBT+ people.
The user interface for adding and editing places may not be perfect yet. If you experience any problems, please let us know – we’re happy to help.
The minimum data required to add a place:
- the name of the place;
- a place category;
- the town or city where it is located;
- a map marker.
Additional information is great, but can also be added later.
If you’re not sure where exactly to place the map marker, feel free to send us a message after you added a place to let us know you’re not sure.
Important: Please use your own local knowledge as primary source of information. You can, of course, use the internet to research some details (e.g. usually a place’s official Facebook page is a good source), but please do not copy information in bulk from other websites. Specifically descriptions and pictures from other review websites may be copyrighted.
Thank you for your help!
An integral part of Flokkr Places will be an events calendar. Basically, you will be able to follow your favourite places, stay up to date with the events hosted at those places and let your friends on Flokkr know which events you’re planning to attend.
Currently, the places of each city are represented by a relatively simple list. In the future you can expect a search feature, filters and an interactive map view.
Once we know a bit more about the individual places, Flokkr users we will also be able to learn more about them. For example, a filter could show you the best places for cruising.
What do you think?
We hope you like this new feature. Leave us a comment to let us know what you think, if you have ideas, problems or anything else. Happy weekend! 😃
