Hi Flokkr community,

Today I’m excited to share with you the news that Esmale was so generous to become our first ever sponsor for this month and explain to you why it matters to our community.

Esmale is an established online shop for gay sex toys, fetish, fashion, essentials and more. Throughout January 2023, Flokkr users will get an extra 10% off using voucher code FLOKKR10. Go and browse their offers and the January sale.

As you probably know, Flokkr is on a mission to create great services for the LGBTQ+ community that truly respects the privacy of its users. This means Flokkr does not track its users and does not share personal data with third parties. We don’t use privacy-invasive tools of Google, Facebook or of the many other ad tech companies out there, that build up huge profiles about pretty much anything you look at online to sell and target you with more ads.

We do this, because we respect you. But this also means it makes it harder to monetise and keep the lights on. One piece of the puzzle is our brand new sponsorship programme. In return for an LGBTQ-friendly company being the sponsor for one month, we link to their website without cluttering our own website with random ads.

We think this is a triple win for everyone:

  • It’s great for the sponsor, because the sponsorship is not just a simple advert. It highlights their commitment to support the LGBTQ+ community and an ethical platform like Flokkr. As a result it strengthens a long-term relationship between brand and users.
  • It helps us stay independent and build the services for the LGBTQ community.
  • It’s a win for you, the Flokkr users, because we don’t have to charge you whilst we also don’t have to sell your data. On top of that, you may get exclusive access to special offers, like the above mentioned discount code.

As always, if you have any questions, concerns, opinions or suggestions, please let us know. We love your feedback!

Thank you for being with us and thank you, Esmale, for your support and believing in us!

Hope you all had a great start into the new year! I’ve been working on a new feature over the “Holidays” and wanted to share this with you. Using the Flokkr Go app, you will be able to check into the listed places that you visit. This way you can build a list for good old memories for yourself, but also let other users know what’s happeing in the area.

The first basic version of this new feature will be released soon on the App Store, so watch out for the update. Let me know what you think. An idea would be to make this even a bit more social…

We have released Flokkr Go 2.1 for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch on the App Store, our free LGBTQ+ city guide app.

With this update you can view events with a line-shaped map annotation such as the route of a pride parade.

Check out the Pride in London Parade 2022, for example, and open the Event Map.

Flokkr has launched its own Greeting Cards brand and online shop for LGBTQ+ people: Cards.LGBT 💌

For now it is only available in the UK. 🇬🇧

This is probably not an announcement you would have expected. 😅 The development of this platform consumes a lot of time and money, but I also don’t want you to charge you for basic services of this platform. So the idea is to sell some merchandise on the side to help support Flokkr plus LGBTQ+ causes.

So if you’re in the UK and need some greeting cards for the birthday of your LGBTQ friend, a gay wedding or engagement or other occasions, please have a look and consider supporting Flokkr! Thanks! 🥰

Happy weekend, everybody!

Here’s just a quick update to let you know what we’re working on. This morning we already fixed a bug that prevented you from seeing the photos in user photo albums.

Apart from that, the main task at the moment is to improve discoverability of other user profiles and dating. In other words, we want to make it easier and more fun to find who’s on Flokkr and also enable users to better present themselves on their user profiles by making profile editing and picture uploads easier and more fun, too.

Here’s the more technical bit: In order for us to innovate faster, we need to make some changes to the web app. Over the next days, weeks and months we will transition parts of the actual web app to the main Flokkr web portal. You may have noticed that we already have two different kinds of pages, easiest to identify by their colour schemes: There are pages with a dark grey background (e.g. flokkr.com, flokkr.com/places, flokkr.com/settings) and those with a light grey background – that’s were you land when you log in with your Flokkr account, including Flokks, Radar, Chat and profiles. It turned out that we are more flexible in terms of new features, updates and innovation using the “dark grey” part of flokkr.com.

That means for you, during the transition period you may find yourself sometimes on the current ”light” part of the website and more and more often on the ”dark” part. We will try our best to make the transition as smooth as possible. The goal is to have only one unified website at the that does everything.

I hope you’re all looking forward to more features and improved usability! Thanks for being with us!

As previously announced, our new gay city guide app has now also been approved for Android and can be downloaded for free on Google Play.

This is our first Android app, so please check it out and let us know if you’re having any trouble with it. It would also be a massive help if you could give us a 5-star rating on Google Play. 🙏☺️

Android 9 (“Pie”) or later is currently the minimum requirement for installing the app. If there is enough demand for compatibility with an older version, we could give it a try, but in the latest test, there were some issues on older phones, so we dropped support, at least for our first version.

As a reminder, iPhone users can get Flokkr Places on the App Store.

Please also share this app with your friends. We hope more people will find our platform useful and join our community. You can copy this link to share with your friends: https://flokkr.com/places/app – it contains a link for both iPhone and Android users. Thank you!

Our first app has landed on the App Store! 🎉

Flokkr Places is your “Gay City Guide” to discover the best gay bars, nightclubs, restaurants, shops, hotels, charities and landmarks in your local area or for planning your next holiday.

Once the LGBT venues start to reopen later this year, this must-have app should be on every gay man’s smartphone.

Free download: App Store

The Android version is currently in review and should become available soon, too.

This is an important milestone for Flokkr and a lot more will follow.

As always, please let us know if you’re experiencing any issues. Otherwise, a little 5-star review on the App Store would help us immensely! 😜😘
