We have just released a new feature, which allows you to add a pretty web link to your Flokk posts. This will open up a whole lot of possibilities.
It’s a feature you already know from other social media sites like Twitter or Facebook. It will display a fancy preview box with title, description, picture or even video of the page you link to as long as the web page has the necessary meta data (most websites do these days).
How it works…
All you have to do is copy the web address (URL) of the page you want to share, create a new post, add a link attachment and paste the link it into the field. Click the “OK” button and the preview will automagically be generated within a few seconds. You can see what it will look like before you submit the post, so there are no excuses not to try it out right now!
Please note, at the moment you can only link to real web pages (HTML) to get a pretty preview, not to image or video files directly.
Some ideas, how you could use this feature:
- Link to a news article you would like to share or discuss with other Flokkr users.
- Share/discuss a Tweet, which may contain an image or video.
- Share a video you like from a video sharing website (like YouTube).
You should be able to link to any web page on the internet as long as it is accessible without a login – that’s the beauty of the world wide web that Flokks is a part of.
We need your help testing this feature.
Every website is different and there are a lot of situations that might lead to unexpected behaviour. So please post your links and let us know in the comments what you think, especially if something goes wrong or if you need help. Thanks!
Example
OK, now here’s an example link to a BBC news story…
